Living the Theme!
As several of the campers put it, Ubuntu means joining together; and together, they were! According to some of the adult counselors, the best moment of camp where when the kids were simply hanging out together, sharing and playing. Many of the activities brought them together, including the hour and a half spent in the basement, waiting for the storms to pass!
Whether they were completing the team challenge course, playing capture the flag or singing songs like Rock-Sword-Shield, they were doing it together. The 1st-3rd grade boys got together for some practice with their prayers, while the junior counselors created some funny impersonations of adults! Crafts brought multiple age groups together to create African masks and Dream Catchers. Together they had fun in the water ballet, though poor Jim Eads was relegated to retirement from the sport, because he simply could not hear or follow the directions. Perhaps next year, he'll be the star in the land ballet!
